From September 16 to 22, a new edition of European Mobility Week, which in 2026 has the theme “Mobility for Everyone”. This approach fully aligns with the vision we share at 30 Days of Biking and UrbanBiker: the bicycle as a tool to guarantee the right to universal accessibility, emphasizing that sustainable mobility must be accessible regardless of income, age, location, gender, or abilities. Additionally, the 2026 edition specifically incorporates the intergenerational dimension and the need for mobility to adapt to different abilities and needs throughout life.
Inclusive Mobility
Inclusive mobility isn’t about offering exactly the same thing to everyone, but about recognizing that needs are different. That’s why “Mobility for Everyone” doesn’t mean that everyone moves in the same way: it means that everyone can move. This idea guides the culture at UrbanBiker: creating “bikes for everyone” isn’t about designing one bike for all, but about developing a range where each person can find an electric bicycle that allows them to move better and use it in their daily life.
This is where the electric bicycle plays a prominent role. As manufacturers focused exclusively on ebikes, at UrbanBiker they position their electric bicycles as tools for daily transportation and not solely as sports products. Pedal assistance breaks down the barrier of physical effort, especially on routes with hills or longer distances, reducing dependence on cars for urban and peri-urban journeys. But above all, it brings the bike closer to people’s daily lives, regardless of their age or physical condition, proving to be a useful, comfortable, and practical alternative for everyday use.
For 30 Days of Biking, getting someone to ride a bicycle is not just about one less car trip. Each person we get on a bike contributes to creating a more open, inclusive, clean, healthy city that is strongly connected at the community level. That’s why UrbanBiker has become our partner, contributing their electric bicycles to this effort as enabling technology.
What is European Mobility Week and How Is It Promoted in Our Cities?
This citizen initiative emerged in Europe in 1999 and, from 2000 onward, received support from the European Commission. It is held every year and Spain leads participation in this event, coordinated by the General Directorate of Mobility Strategies of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.
European Mobility Week aims to raise awareness among both policymakers and citizens about the consequences of excessive car use and the benefits of active mobility. Participation encourages cities to implement permanent measures, develop best practices, and celebrate World Car-Free Day on September 22.
Local Initiatives: León’s Commitment and the 30 Days of Biking Network
As a proudly León-based company, at UrbanBiker we echo the initiatives taking place in our area, such as those promoted by the León City Council.
Similarly, local groups of 30 Days of Biking (from Gijón to Barcelona, including A Coruña, Salamanca, Valladolid, Huesca, and even in Latin America) have participated prominently since 2014, contributing activities and collaborating with municipal governments in implementing this week. Outreach work that, in 2016, was recognized by the European Cyclists’ Federation with the award for “Best Cycling Mobility Action“.
Carlos Rodríguez is international coordinator of 30 Days of Biking, a multi-award-winning global campaign promoting everyday bicycle use, and collaborates with UrbanBiker in promoting sustainable mobility.
